Wübu Bamboo

At our core, we are driven by a commitment to sustainability and environmental responsibility. We have set ambitious targets for ourselves as we work towards a more sustainable future.

By the end of 2023, we aim to be producing 30,000 bamboo squared strips per month and 8 tons of biochar per month, while adding new plantations totaling 500 hectares.

By the end of 2024, we want to expand our production to include bamboo wood, producing around 600 cubic meters per year, and add another 500 hectares to our plantations. Looking further ahead, by 2030, we aim to have 10,000 hectares of bamboo plantations across Guatemala and Central America.

Each unit of plantation (22ha), can be accompanied by an ecovillage designed to work in a circular system. These goals are ambitious, but we believe in the transformative power of bamboo and its ability to drive meaningful change towards a sustainable future.

Metrics and Goals

01

Sustainability

At the heart of our work is sustainability. We believe that development and growth must go hand in hand with environmental protection and preservation.

That's why we have chosen to work with bamboo, a renewable and versatile resource that has a minimal impact on the environment. In fact, bamboo sequesters around 120 tons of CO2 per year per hectare when mature, making it a powerful tool in the fight against climate change.

Not only that, but bamboo can produce around 1000 poles per year per hectare, providing a sustainable source of income for local communities.

Our goal is to create circular, holistic systems that not only benefit the environment but also empower rural communities and promote sustainable development.

02

Climate Change

Bamboo is known as the "carbon-negative" plant, as it absorbs more carbon dioxide than any other plant. Our work with bamboo is a key solution to address climate change, as we actively sequester carbon from the atmosphere while providing sustainable economic development opportunities to local communities.

With our circular, agroforestry approach, we create a positive impact on the environment while promoting a low-carbon economy.

By planting and managing bamboo plantations, we help mitigate the effects of climate change by reducing greenhouse gas emissions and promoting sustainable land use.

Our goal is to not only reduce the negative impact of climate change but also create a net positive impact through our work.

03

Carbon Emissions

As a company that promotes sustainable development, we are committed to reducing our carbon emissions and mitigating our impact on the environment.

We are constantly working to identify areas where we can reduce our emissions, such as optimizing transportation and using renewable energy sources in our operations.

Additionally, through our bamboo plantations, we are able to offset our carbon emissions and contribute to carbon sequestration, as bamboo is a highly efficient carbon sink as said before.

By prioritizing sustainability and working towards carbon neutrality, we are doing our part to combat climate change and create a more sustainable future.

04

Waste Management

Our waste management approach is centered on our commitment to sustainability and circularity. In our bamboo plantations, we use every part of the bamboo pole, leaving nothing to waste.

After harvesting, the larger portions of the pole are used for bamboo wood, while the smaller parts and bamboo dust are used to produce biochar.

The remaining sawdust is also utilized to make biomass pellets, creating a closed-loop system with minimal waste.

Our focus on using all parts of the bamboo plant allows us to not only reduce waste but also create valuable products that can be used in various industries

05

Community Impact

Our work has a strong focus on community impact. We work closely with local communities to ensure that our plantations benefit everyone involved.

Through our projects, we create job opportunities and help to stimulate rural economies. Additionally, our agroforestry systems provide food security for local communities through companion planting of food crops alongside bamboo.

Our circular ecovillages, which we create on each of our units of plantation, provide affordable housing and access to basic services for our workers and their families.

By promoting sustainable development and creating a positive impact in the lives of local people, we hope to foster a sense of community ownership and long-term sustainability for our projects.

Our Promise

We have a circular point of view. That means being leaders in environmental, social and economic sustainability.

At Wübu, we promise to deliver sustainable, holistic, and innovative solutions to address the challenges of climate change and rural development. We are committed to creating circular systems that benefit both the environment and the local communities we work with.

We will continue to prioritize the development of markets for our products, while also ensuring that the production process is socially responsible and economically beneficial for all stakeholders involved.
